DUDU'S LAST DREAM

The white ape Dudu is still in his cage,
Sculptured in ice on a concrete stage,
He is hot, he is cold: in fevered emotion
The spiral of dreams, like a flood in motion
Drench him in visions: of hope, of rage,
Of scenes from a past, a future age,
Until one dream takes a gentler hold
And fills him with longing, pale and cold:
For ice crystals dancing, For a hollow wind clawing,
For a frozen landscape drawing and drawing:
Silent and silver, calling and calling
To the white ape falling
Into a dream.....
