Gallery for Light Installation Series: "Alien Critters"
When I started creating pictures 3 years ago, I was told I should decide whether I wanted to be an artist or an illustrator. Therefore, in the gallery Emerging Worlds I created pictures for their own sakes. But then I decided it was contra-creative to define oneself in such a narrow box, and rebelled. The pictures below are definitely illustrations! They illustrate the Songs of the Zhongzi videos, but like the pictures in the Emerging Worlds gallery, they have also been developed for use in an exhibition at the Water Tower Gallery, in a series of hexagonal coffee tables and lamps, each with 6 semi-translucent panels. The panels are printed on akryl, and mounted in the panels of the hexagonal casing with led lights behind the panels, giving the appearance of glass windows.
