Rowen Sivertsen
a little about the author
rowen

Originally a biochemist, I worked for years as a science teacher in countries in conflict (Nigeria, Colombia), and transferred to peacework with an emphasis on the role of teachers. After moving to Norway, I became director of a large Norwegian peace network, and spent many years working for human rights and education for peace.

Although still involved, I have taken a long sabbatical leave in order to focus on my other passions in life: song writing and science fiction are among them. Since writing and composing have always been dear hobbies, I have a drawer-full of dust-gathering projects that until now have always stayed in the drawer. Some of them originated with Ingelil Mitchell, I have given these priority, as I have always wanted to bring her fabulous work to the attention of a greater audience. We like to believe that the combination of Ingelil's ideas and paintings and my texts and music is unique. It is certainly inspiring to us both.

Now I've just started a little publishing company: Birch Tree Road Publishing, named for the road where I live (Birkeveien) at Hellvik in Norway.

Words upon words
Words within words
Words making worlds in your head
Worlds upon worlds
Worlds beyond worlds
Places where no man can tread
(Rowen, 1982)

...But the dreams
their children dreamed,
Shadowy, unsubstantial, vain,
Eery nothings,
or so they deemed:
These remain.
(Mary Coleridge, 1908)

... And hope that there's intelligent life somewhere out in space,
Because there's B*** all down here on Earth!
We'll hope that there's intelligent life somewhere out in space,
Because there's B*** all down here on Earth!

(Michael Palin)
